Low Impact Ethanol and Cellulosic Diesel? - 04/02/09
Low Impact Ethanol - Idaho Ethanol Processing LLC has just selected Whole Energy as an exclusive west-coast distributor for its potato-waste derived ethanol product. Over the last several years this plant near Boise has provided the only rated quantities of non-corn derived ethanol in the Northwest. With recent interest in the indirect land use effects of biofuels, the value of using waste materials is even more pronounced.
Cellulosic Diesel - Mercurius Biofuels has been newly formed with the support of Whole Energy Fuels Corporation. The company will develop and commercialize what may be the most capital, energy, and carbon efficient process for a cellulosic fuel. Both National Labs and the Department of Energy have conducted research that may accelerate the development of the Mercurius process which requires no exotic enzymes or catalysts.
Karl Seck, CEO of Mercurius, was also a key proponent of the relationship with Idaho Ethanol. Waste or low value feedstocks for biofuels are the only options for biofuels to be both economically and socially sustainable. The Whole Energy team has supported the utilization of these feedstocks for the production of biofuels since its founding in 2004.
