Community Car Share Adds Second Car - 12/06/07
BELLINGHAM, WA, DECEMBER 5, 2007. Community Car Share of Bellingham
(CCS) has added a second vehicle to its fleet and increased its membership
through three local organizations .
This week a 2000 VW Beetle will increase to two the number of vehicles
available to Community Car Share members. "This is a new milestone for the car
share," said Lorraine Wilde, Car Share General Manager, "because this car will
run on biodiesel fuel." CCS started in August 2006 with a Toyota Prius hybrid
vehicle stationed at the Bellingham Public Market. The Beetle will be stationed on
Railroad Avenue adjacent to the newly remodeled Whatcom Transit Authority
bus depot.
The car share also expanded its membership this month by almost 40% by
establishing deals with three local groups: Whole Energy Biofuels, Sustainable
Connections, and the Whatcom County Public Works Department.
In late 2005, Atul Deshmane, President of Whole Energy Biofuels, made a
commitment to help CCS acquire a biodiesel-powered vehicle. That promise
came to fruition this month. Whole Energy found, bought, repaired, and gifted the
vehicle to CCS. Said Deshmane, "We're happy to support the car share in this
way. I know there are a lot of businesses in Bellingham's downtown corridor that
could join and use this service as well."
